For this we practiced the various techniques on facial features placement and how to draw each individual one. first we practiced the eyes then the nose and mouth. The hardest part for me to draw would be the mouth i can never really get it that perfect but practicing all of these did help me a ton with drawing out my final before i went over it in pen. especially since my face is at a weird angle in it the placement helped me a lot. I am extremely happy with my final self portrait i think that it turned out really great and the lips actually look right and proportional to me which is nice. one thing i did leave out was eye lashes i was not sure if it would look muddy if i tried to go in there with black on top of all that color already so i just left it for fear of messing everything up but i think that it turned out really nicely.
For this project, we had to come up with an idea that had a lot of movement incorporated into it and create that idea with the scratchboard. At first we practiced the techniques with the scratch board and used all the different tools taht can make all these different marks and lines on the board. I kknew that i wanted to use the white versus the silver as it was a lot brighter and i liked that better, so i kind of tried to base my ideas off the idea that i was working with black and white so my first main idea of my two main ideas was to do zebras running. I really liked this idea alot but i just do animals so much i wanted a change. I thought about how cool mermaids probably look in scratchboard because i feel like the scratchboard does give the piece a kind of magical quality which is nice. I decided i wanted to do a mermaid sitting on a giant rock in the middle of the water, and have her hair blowing in the wind and then use the hair as well as the water/air to create the movement. Since i like to do designs so much and my favorite one i do all the time in my pieces in the swirls i figured id use that for the water because in my sketch i think that it looked really cool . I spent a ton of time on the rock with is why the mermaid and sky are kind of rushed which i hate but overall i think it looks really nice.I love this piece and i would do it again and i enjoyed working with scratchboard as it is my first time.
For this project, we were to think of ideas to do something where it was an altered appearance like looking through plastic. My first idea was to do a bouquet of flowers as they come in the plastic sheets wrapped around them but i did not have enough time to go and get one and take the pictures. I came into class with no pictures therefore, so my friend had her lunch out on the table and we decided just to take pictures of that because there were plastic bags in the picture that changed how the pear and the tortilla chips looked. Im very happy with how the lid and the pear turned out i think they look really good, and the really crinkly plastic bag looks good to me as well until we get to the chips. I tried really hard to get the right color but i could not get it that accurate and drawing chips inside a bag and making them look as if they are inside the bag as well was extremely difficult. If there was something i would go back and redue it would be the chips. Also, im not a fan of the bag in the front because that bag was actually empty and had nothing in it and it looks really flat but i was not sure how to really change that up as thats pretty much how it looks in the picture as well. I do like the idea of the project though and i would do it again but maybe do a different picture i just was not the biggest fan of the idea of mine but i think that it turned out okay for the most part dispite that.
For this project, we had to pick out a candy bar and draw four different stages of the candy of our choosing. I chose the krackel Hershey's candy bar just because it's my favorite and I liked the label. For my four stages I decided to draw it first how it is sitting on the table , then unwrap the bottom, then unwrap it all the way, and then take a bite out of it for the last one focusing on how the candy looks more than the wrapper for that one. Drawing the edges of the candy wrapped was actually the hard part for me since the candy isn't sharp edges or anything it's rounded so that was kind of difficult for me. My favorite part was my fourth stage drawing out the candy bar itself, it was fun to draw the texturing in the chocolate I really liked doing that. If I could change something I would make the first two stages more alike in size and shape that's a little off, but overall I'm satisfied with this piece.
For this project we had to do contour drawings with our hands. First we started out drawing them blind so we had to stare at our hands in a certain position and not look at our papers for a certain amount of time and then when time is called, then we stopped and looked at how horrible our blind drawings were. Then we drew them not blind which i was actually really satisfied with i think that they turned out really well.
for this lesson we set up foam shape forms in the middle of the table and turned the spot lights on to help create shadows and drew them out using graphite.
For this lesson we learned how to shade using the white charcoal and using different shades of whites to create the different shadows and whites with these paper curls that we taped to our desks to draw. At the top we practicing drawing value charts.
For this project someone at our table had to put their backpack on top of the table and contour draw it out and get all of the texturing and everything all the while we aren't picking up our pens. The hard part of this project for me so far was trying to get the zipper part of the backpack to actually look like the zipper tracks are supposed to look in real life but i think that i did a pretty good job.We never got a chance to finish this project, but if i got the chance i would definitely go back and finish it up because i think that so far it had come along pretty well and i would like to see how it turned out.
For this project, we had to chose a view of the room to look at and draw it. We had to do this project in pen as well as use the contour drawing technique which is when you continuously draw a line and you can't pick up your drawing utensil till the end of your piece. I decided to draw the wall behind where i sit because i liked all the detailing that i could incorporate into my piece which i did like initially but that turned out to be the challenge after i started. I had a lot of trouble with the perspective of my piece as well it looks really off especially at the bottom of my piece where i was trying to make the sinks vear off so it would look like they are on an angle but that did not really work at all. I'm not really the happiest with this piece and i would maybe choose to do a different perspective if i were to re do this.
