For this project we had to look up a bunch of different ideas for vessels that would hold things and use the inspiration to make our own. I really enjoy making art that has to do with animals and a mug is a really cool vessel and I have always wanted to make my own mug so I started brainstorming different animals that I could make the mug kind of interactive with. My two vessels I decided on was a giraffe which the handle would be the giraffe neck, this would be the tall mug, and a cat which is a small mug and the tall is the handle. I loved making the cat one and I think the giraffe one is an even cooler idea so hopefully it turns out even better !
For this project, we started out with a little mini pratice tile, so i decided that i wanted to do an elephant with its body hanging off the tile on the edges a little bit, and i did designs in the body of the elephant and cut away around the outside of the outline of its body to create the relief ( i have the drawing pictured above the actual tile is lost somewhere in this room). I was pretty happy with that, but for my final big tile i thought i wanted to do something a little different so instead of cutting away from the tile i was just going to add more to it to make it 3 dimensional. I always do animals for basically any art project i ever do so i wanted to do something different so i decided to do roses and i would make them popping off of the tile. I thought that this piece was pretty successful, i liked the texturing that i got in the leaves and it was really challenging to get all of the rose's petals to still together and be one mass but i think that they turned out really well after i figured out how to do it. One thing i would change is the way that i painted it ( i entered it in the art show before i got a picture of it painted whoops) the colors are very very vibrant and dark which can sometimes be nice but that is really not at all what i was going for and if i could go back and change that i would but overall i would say this was a pretty successful piece.
