For this project we had to buy wire of the color of our choice, and twist it into a tree and hang stuff from the limbs. The base i chose for this was a large wood chip that my dad had from cutting wood and at the very end i actually had to try to super glue the roots to the wood as it wouldn't stay couldn't get it to wind around the wood easy and i was low on wire. I chose gold wire because i felt like it would look the best, and i bought a bunch of rock beads with the holes through them to through the wire and twist up so the rocks are actually acting as leaves. I felt like it was kind of ironic in a way to use the wood for the base just because trees are supposed to be wood and not wire. I really like this project but one thing that i would change is to make it bigger as this tree is really little and it looks really crowded i feel like and that it could look better. I had a lot of fun with this however and i am using this as decoration in my room so it does look really cool it just could look better i guess.
For this project at first we all met up in big groups by table and had to come up with ideas for a big class group installation and where to put in the school. As a result we came to the agreement of doing i think it is like plaster or clay strips im not really sure over top of a balloon and then let it harden and paint it, and then hand string from the ends of it to hang something we created to be floating down from the parachute. In the picture mine is the one on the far left that is light blue, and hanging down from the middle i created a ball out of wire and glued this pointy beads on the sides of it to make it look like a flower and hung it from the parachute. For my parachute i used a sponge to paint it with blue and white because i wanted it to look kind of like a sky which i feel like turned out really well. The hard part for all of us i feel like was once we had decided to hang them from the stairs in the courtyard, the string we chose to do this with was very thin and slippery and it was so hard to grip and hold the parachute up and tie it onto the poll at the same time, which resulted in many of the falling till we were able to get them up there. This was a really fun and cool creative idea however and i really enjoyed doing it and would do it again.
For this project we were to make three bowls, at least one with the wheel, to go towards a charity event that our teacher was setting up called the empty bowl project where the money that comes in from the bowls being bought goes towards the organization. The first bowl in the picture is a bowl that i made that actually i tried to make look like an orange but it did not really work that well. That bowl and the second bowl pictured were actually two of four that i made really fast at the last minute in hopes they would be done before the charity but they came out of the kiln after so they were actually not done in time. The second one i did with the wheel which was pretty difficult but also really fun and i would definitely try doing more things with the wheel if i was ever given a chance. The only thing that i would really change for that bowl is maybe make it larger as i was nervous and didn't want to ruin it by making it huge. The third bowl i made which is the empty space picture up there because my first two bowls i forgot to take pictures of before the show and i cant find them any where now but if i do which is hopefully as it is my fav ill upload the picture. But my third bowl i used the same technique as we did for the tray so i got a styrafoam bowl and rolled out really long coils with the clay and slowly wound it up inside the styrafoam bowl have to score and slip the whole time so it wouldn't crack apart when it was fired. After i painted it with the blue that has the chunk flecks in it and put it over togo in the glaze kiln but i never saw it after that but i do feel like it turned out pretty well. The last bowl was a pinch bowl that was pretty little i did with my hands and then i smoothed it all out and drew out a flower over the bowl with the needle tool and then drew a yin and yang sign in the middle and did an xoxo design in the flower petals. When it was time for me to glaze this one i painted it pink glaze with the blue and white chunks in it and did the yin and yang blue and white i believe. I did not see this after it was in the glaze kiln eaither but i did really like it before so i feel like it turned out well hopefully i will find it
For this project, we were to cut a slab of clay and fold it to a tray and use that as a mold, and then after the clay sit for a day or two we took the black stain and painted the top of the clay. I believe that i did about two or three coats of the black overtop of the clay tray. Then we were to figure out a design that we wanted to create in the clay and carve into it using the tools to create the design or picture that we desired. I really didnt know what i wanted to do for my design on the tray and i just kind of felt like doing whatever came to me so i decided to do a design with the swirls that i use alot in all of the art projects that i do in my art classes. I like the way that this project turned out but i do wish i had kept the lines skinnier because originally the lines in the design were much thinner the first day that i had begun carving, but then i forgot which tool i had used the previous tool and started with another one that ended up being much much thicker, and it looked really unbalanced with half of the design having thick lines and the other half thin so i just went through and made them all thick. Overall besides that though i did like the project and thought that it was a really cool concept to cut into the dark which brings out the light and i would deffinitely want to do this project again it was really cool.
This project was a kind of mini lesson. For the first part of class we watching and saw pictures of all of these different kinds of paper curls projects where people roll up different sized cut pieces of paper like from magazines and newspapers and books, and put them all together to form something. I really had no idea what I wanted to do so I just started cutting and rolling paper of the same kind of colors, a lot of reds pinks and purple shades, and I rolled a bunch of them out. Having so many made me think of Lincoln logs so I decided to tape them together so that it would look like a tower made with Lincoln logs. The challenge for me was how I had cut all different sized pieces since I didn't know what I was trying to make at first so it was kind of hard to get the different sizes to work together. I really enjoyed Working with these and I would deffinitely do it again.
